Gill is a very experienced and skilled public sector leader with over 30 years’ experience of executive level leadership. She has extensive experience of leading large organisations, leading change, supporting organisations in times of difficulty, and managing large complex resource portfolios in times of austerity. She has held two local government Chief Executive roles at West Sussex County Council and the London Borough of Bexley and has held five local government Executive Director Roles, covering a wide range of services. Including finance and the wider corporate centre, environmental, community and neighbourhood services, street scene, highways and public realm, leisure, arts and culture, economic growth, regeneration, and housing. She has been responsible for two Fire and Rescue organisations and has held the role of Chief Executive of a Police Authority.
Gill was part of the team that very successfully led the development and implementation of a new unitary Council in Cornwall, Gill has extensive experience of public sector wholly owned companies and has extensive experience of working with communities to enable them to take a greater role in running services and managing community assets. In addition to Chairing the Lampton Group of companies, Gill is also the Chair of the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) a role she has held for over 3 years.
Gill currently works as a freelance consultant, working with Councils on the transformation of place-based services and with central government – she recently established the Regional Structure for Test, Trace and Contain and worked as a Regional Convenor for the South West. Gill also works as an adviser for the LGA supporting the development of Health and Social Care systems. She is also an experienced coach and mentor.
